AJOR PERIPHERAL HOSPITAL IN WESTERN SUBURBS ESTABLISHED IN 1969-70
LOCATED AT ANDHERI – VILEPARLE (WEST) ( K/ W & E WARD – POPULATION- 15 LACS)
HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT
Hospital started as Maternity Home in 1969 which was upgraded to General Hospital in 1970. Since 1977, it was recognized as Teaching Hospital, affiliated to KEM Hospital. Trauma Unit, ICU & ICCU in a separate Casualty building with Central Ambulance Service were started in 1982. As the old hospital building beceme dilapidated in 1997, Department of Gyn. & Obst. was shifted to Oshiawar Materniry Home, Psychiatry was shifted to V N Desai Hospital, Santacruz and other departments were accommodated in Cooper Hospital. It was proposed to redevelop Cooper Hospital through Private Party Participation in 2003. However in 2006, MCGM decided to redevelop it on it’s own. Accordingly redevelopment work has started in 2009 . The new redeveloped Cooper hospital was inaugurated on 30/11/2013.
