Access to Safe Abortions in Peripheral BMC Hospitals in Conjunction with Cehat HBTMC Cooper Hospital 7th December 2022.

An “Access to Safe Abortions in peripheral BMC Hospitals” awareness program was conducted b the Dept of Ob &Gyn in conjuction with CEHAT NGO on 7th December 2022 at RN COOPER Hospital at the Community Medicine Lecture Hall at 1.30 PM.There was attendance of 80 people including Cooper hospital employees (nurses, matron, sister in-charges, AMO/CMO, faculty, residents and interns) peripheral hospital HCPs and Team members of CEHAT and DILASA . It was attended bydignitaries like Dr. Manisha Khare( Academic Dean UG), Dr. JitenBhavsar( Senior MO) , Dr. SachinSonawane ( Dept of FMT) Adv. AnubhaRastogi, and 2-3 HCPs from each of 12 peripheral BMC hospitals. Dr. MandakiniMegh( ex-Med. Supdt& Head Cama Hospital and Ex-Deputy Director of Govt of Maharashtra RCH Family Welfare) came as special guest to grace the occasion. An informative video made by CEHAT on abortion services for young persons was played during registration and refreshments .

Dr. ReenaWani started the program with Ganapati Vandana and then shed lights on the current practices and trends regarding conducting safe abortions, and the objectives of the program. Dr Manisha Khare gave welcome speech on behalf of Dean sir, who had conceptualized the program. AnshitBaxi from CEHAT put across the challenges, concerns and practical problems faced in different health centers. Dr. RashmiJalvee discussed in details the various possible scenarios faced, SOP followed in our institute and how to manage the cases. This was followed by a question answer sessions followed where many of the doubts were cleared. Adv. AnubhaRastogi came and shed light on the details of verdicts of the September 2022 Supreme Court. There was very active interaction between the guests and attendees during the open floor discussions and question answer sessions. DrBhavsar, DrMandakiniMegh, DrAsmitaPatil, DrRashmiJalvee and DrSachinSonavane answered audience questions. DrReenaWani interacted with the audience giving real-life examples of cases. DrMandakiniMegh gave an overview of trends and changed practices in Family welfare program from administrators viewpoint and promised to discuss the grey areas at higher levels. Dr. Pramila Yadav gave concluding report and summary of the practices that need to be adopted to conduct Safe Abortions.

Co-ordinatorsDrSambit Nanda and DrSayliWankhedkar conducted a pre test and post test awareness program as well as feedback from the attendees along with coordination of sessions. The program was highly appreciated and interactive, and positive feedback was given by all the attendees. They have requested for more similar programs in the near future. We thank Dean sir DrShaileshMohite for his support, all the visiting faculty, CEHAT and our OBGY team who worked hard to coordinate the program. Minutes of important points discussed shall be circulated to all participants soon.

Mata Surakshit Tar Ghar Surakshit Programme Report

HBTMC & Dr. R.N. Cooper Hospital is actively participating in the NUHM led programme“MATA SURAKSHIT TAR GHAR SURAKSHIT” with various activities being done for women’s health, coordinated by Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

• Daily health talks in OPD E2 for patients (banners received from F-South) during this week.
• 2 Screening Camps for BMD (Bone Mineral Density) in women on Thursday 13th October and Wednesday 19th October in OPD E2 (for 10am-3pm).
• Staff women health screening (faculty, nurses, office staff) in collaboration with department of Community Medicine (NCD Corner) on 13th October Wednesday (10am - 1pm).
• Distribution of Protein powder supplements to patients in ANC/PNC & OPD E2 by Lion's Club during Service Week (October 3rd onwards) coordinated by Mrs. Sheelaben.
• Donation of medications for female patients by Lion's Club of Juhu on Monday 3rd October
• Distribution of Jhablas/ Clothing to Mother-baby pairs during Lion's Service Week (Coordinated by Dr. Hemant Dugad).
• Talks on breast feeding by mothers support group members & department Assistant Professor during this month.
• CDO team was also working actively with us for IEC activity.

We have already covered 334 Gynecology patients and 495pregnant women in the first week and will be focusing on our employees on 13th October with special screening session and health talk for the lady staff, nurses, doctors, other female employees( Copy of programme attached) We believe that Women’s health is Nation’s Wealth, and are going to do our best in collaboration with all departments to improve the health status of all ladies who come to our hospital.

World AIDS Day ProgramDate:5th Dec 2022

Objective of the Program:

• To share important of the AIDS day and create awareness about HIV / AIDS test and reporting all testing of pregnant women status.

The Department of Obstetrics &Gynaecology celebrated “World AIDS Day” in Dr. R. N. Cooper Hospital on 5th December 2022. ICTC - PPTCT counsellor Mrs. ShamalLonkarorganised the program.

Dr. ReenaWani Madam (HOD – OBGY Dept. ) share very important information with participant and health talked given about AIDS i.e. from meaning of HIV/AIDS to preventive, testing and treatment measures. Dr. Pramila Yadav (Assistant Professor – OBGY Dept. / Incharge - PPTCT) shared the importance of HIV test for ANC mother to protect the child and prevent HIV/AIDS. Mrs. ShamalLonar (Counsellor - PPTCT ) talked about importance of the day and theme of the year that is ‘Equality and End Inequality’ At the conclusion all participated team members Dr. ReenaWani (HOD – OBGY Dept.) ,Dr. Pramila Yadav (Assistant Professor – OBGY Dept. / Incharge -PPTCT) , Mrs. ShamalLonkar (Counsellor – ICTC - PPTCT), Ms. Pooja Suryawanshi (CDO – OBGY Dept.) , Mrs. SampadaPalkar (Sister Incharge – OBGY), Smt. World Cancer Day 4th Feb 2023 celebrated with Gyn and ANC Patients

On 4th Feb 2023 health talk is given by Dr. AsmitaPatil and Ms. Pooja Suryawanshi(CDO – OBGY Dept.) on cervical cancer, ovarian cancer and breast cancer and created awareness among patients about prevention of Cancer. Approximately 15 patients participated in the program.

On 6th Feb 2023 Health talk is given to ANC &Gyn Patient about prevention and treatment of cervical cancer, ovarian cancer and breast cancer and created awareness among patients about prevention of Cancer. Approximately 15 patients participated in the program. Also answered the query and questions raised by ANC mother through individual counseling in ANC OPD.

International Women’s Day Celebration 2023- Report

International Women’s day celebration was organized on 8 th and 10 th March 2023 at HBT Medical College and Dr RN Cooper Hospital with the enthusiastic efforts of DrReenaWani (HOD).

The program was conducted in association with AMWI, MOGS and ICICI Prudential Mutual Funds. Coordinators were Dr. Aditi Lalpuria and Ms. KhushbuPeshavaria.

DAY 1: 8 th MARCH (WEDNESDAY)

International Women’s Day Celebration on 8 th March, the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology under the Guidance of Dr. ReenaWani (Prof. & HOD OBGY) in collaboration with AMWI (Association of Medical Women of India), MOGS (Mumbai Obstetrics and Gynecology Society) and ICICI bank conducted a women’s health check-up, in Gynaec OPD from 9am-2pm., in association with the department of pathology, community medicine and surgery keeping in mind the health of women and importance of screening for breast and genital cancers.Dean Sir, Dr. ShaileshMohite graced the occasion & was welcomed and felicitated. Dr. Prasad pandit (MS), Dr. Manisha Khare (HOD pathology and academic dean), Dr. RavindraKembhavi (HOD PSM) also graced the occasion. In OPD, Women were screened for Non communicable diseases like obesity, diabetes, hypertension, HIV, breast cancer, and cervical cancer. 72 patients were registered for screening program for whom detailed history taking and examination was done. All got BP, Anemia, Breast examination and BMI done. 62 got HIV testing done and 8 did PAP smears. These included patients, staff and doctors. The main focus of the programme was “Meri Health, Meri Zimmedari”. Patients were given talk on awareness of general health and genital cancers. Gifts from ICICI bank were distributed to all the participants and follow up was planned.

DAY 2: 10 th MARCH (FRIDAY)

As a continuation of International Women’s Day Celebration, a health talk was arranged on importance of health for women above 40 years (Dr. ReenaWani), Breast cancer awareness and screening (Dr. UshmaButala), cervical cancer awareness and HPV vaccination (Dr. Aditi Lalpuria). This was followed by a financial awareness Programme arranged by ICICI Prudential Mutual Funds, on how to smartly invest in mutual funds and become financially independent. It was attended by the residents, faculty, students and staff of the hospital. Program concluded by felicitation of all the Conveners, Coordinators and Faculty of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Surgery, Community Medicine.

Report of National Menstrual Hygiene Day Program – 2024

The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology celebrated “National Menstrual Hygiene Day” in HBT Medical College & Dr. R. N. Cooper Hospital at Gyn. OPD (E1) on 28th May 2024 with Gyn & ANC patients. OBGY department CDO Ms. Pooja Suryawanshi had organized the program under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Reena Wani & Dr. Asmita Patil & with help of Dr. Suchita & Dr. Khatija. Program started with sharing history & importance of celebrating National Menstrual Hygiene Day by Ms. Pooja Suryawanshi (OBGY- CDO). Created awareness by sharing very important information like Myths & Facts, environment friendly disposal etc. with participant also health talked given about maintaining hygiene during menstrual days by Dr. Reena Wani Madam (HOD – OBGY Dept.) & Dr. Asmita Patil (Associate Prof.). Then interactive session with questions and answers done by Dr. Rashmi Jalvee & Dr. Pramila Yadav. At the end of the program conducted ‘Tree - Thumb Impression’ activity with participant as a sign of “Environment Friendly Menstruation” by team. Posters and charts presented by Ms. Pooja Suryawanshi (CDO-OBGY).

Report Of Doctor’s Day Programme

Date of Conduction: 01/07/2024 & 02/07/2024 Patron: Dr. Shailesh Mohite (Dean) Convener: Dr. Reena Wani (HOD Department of OBGY) Coordinators: Dr. Suchita Suryawanshi, Dr. Sruthy Sudarsan, Dr. Mukulika Sharma On the precious occasion of Doctor’s Day celebration which was held over 2 days, 1st and 2nd July 2024, The Department of OBGY at HBTMC and Dr R. N. Cooper Hospital conducted many activities. In OPD E1 from 11 am-1 pm we conducted Osteoporosis Awareness and free bone mineral density screening camp with the support of MOGS and FOGSI. We had screened bone mineral density of 85 healthcare workers out of which 30 were normal, 51 were having low bone density (osteopenic), 4 were osteoporotic out of these 7 opted for further screening by DEXA scan. Respected Dean Sir was also present at the venue and had participated in the screening programme. Health talk on prevention of osteoporosis was given by Dr Reena Wani, HOD OBGY Dept followed by refreshments. Programme was supported by MOGS and FOGSI. Blood donation camp in collaboration with Association of Medical Consultants, under the guidance of Dr. Bhavsar (BTO) with our blood bank team from 9:00 am to 6: 00 pm, on the same day. As a part of the Doctors' Day 2024 celebration, we also conducted an educational interactive session on HPV and vaccination on July 2, 2024, in Lecture Theatre 3, New College Building, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dean Sir graced the occasion, and started with a 2-minute condolence for prayers for sad demise of our colleague from Community Medicine Dr. Sanjay Panchal. He gave his thoughts and encouragement to the programme. The CME programme was initiated with a welcome speech and introduction by Dr. Reena Wani, Head of the department; followed by an introductory lecture from Dr. Rashmi Jalvee, (Additional Associate Professor). Very informative lectures from special guests Dr. Jayanti Shastri and Dr. Lynette Menezes on the current diagnostic modalities of HPV and vaccination. The programme was supported by MUHS, MOGS and Serum Institute of India. There were a total of 20 faculty and 99 students who attended the CME. At the end of the discussion, an interactive Q&A session by all the speakers was held to clear up the queries from the crowd. A thank-you speech was given by Dr. Pramila Yadav (Assistant Professor) and the programme was successfully wrapped up followed by refreshments. Information leaflets were given to all the participants. We thank Dean Sir Dr. Shailesh Mohite, President MOGS Dr. Suvarna Khadilkar, and MUHS Chair Professor Dr. Jayanthi Shastri for their support.

World Breastfeeding Week Program

Brief of the program:

The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology celebrated “World Breastfeeding Week” in Dr. R. N. Cooper Hospital at OBGY Dept. on 6th Aug 2024 with PNC patient in PNC Ward. Dr. Reena Wani (HOD – OBGY Dept.) shared information about importance of Breastfeeding also gave health talked about importance of excluding breastfeeding for the first six month with participant. OBGY team and Action Against Hunger team shared the importance of early initiation of breastfeeding with participant as well as gave demonstration about correct positions of mother during breastfeeding by team through IEC materials. The whole session was interactive. Program conrdinated by Ms. Pooja Suraywanshi (CDO-OBGY Dept.) with guidance of Dr. Reena Wani Madam (HOD – OBGY Dept.). After the awareness session one to one counselling of PNC patients has been done by Ms. Pooja Suryawanshi (CDO- OBGY Dept.), Dr. Aishwarya Nichani, Dr.Prajkta Katti & Dr. Suchita Suryawanshi to solved doubts about breastfeeding.
